Don't curse the darkness, light a candle.
Mission not yet accomplished? Heil, Congress of US!
Dear peace activists,
(Please forward widely!)
Today marks the beginning of the 6th year of the occupation of Iraq. In Washington DC, actions of mass civil disobedience are planned as well as protests throughout the country.
Despite the fact that public opinion has long turned against the war, Congress continues to fund it. The past Saturday, we held a protest in Rome with the "Ides of March: Et tu, Congress?" street theatre (see photos: http://www.peaceandjustice.it/g-march-15-2008.php)
Today, we are calling on all of you to send a fax -- with just one click from our web site -- to Clinton and Obama demanding they use their roles as Senators to block funding requests to end the war NOW, something both claim should happen immediately on their presidential campaign sites. Let´s hold them accountable!
SEND A FAX: http://www.peaceandjustice.it/filibuster/ (includes sample letters for both that you can personalize)
Send this message to your friends and family asking that they join in and send a fax from our site. Let´s keep those fax machines ringing!
On Sunday, we also held a fundraiser for Iraq Veterans Against the War and raised Euro 252 ($400) in support of their Winter Soldier investigation. Thanks to everyone who contributed. We urge you all to watch the riveting testimony in which 50 veterans and active duty soldiers describe the reality -- that we rarely, if ever, hear or see -- of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan: http://www.ivaw.org/
If you weren´t able to make it to the fundraiser but would like to support the work of these courageous soldiers speaking out to end the war, and truly at the forefront of the anti-war movement in the US, you can donate online via the IVAW web site: http://ivaw.org/support
And finally, this is also marks the 3rd anniversary of our group. Over the
past three years we have organized and participated in numerous protests,
screened over 40 documentaries, written letters, sent faxes, including 1,700
to Rep. Conyers calling for impeachment, worked together with the Italian
anti-war movement and met people from all over the world. We´ve grown
stronger as a group and are as determined as ever to continue to do our
part to change this world. Thanks to everyone for all you do!
Peace,
Anna, Gene, Maria, Maria Chiara and Stephanie
