REAL HISTORY
The Functions of Fascism
Michael Parenti is one of this country's most distinguished political scientists. His articles regularly appear in major newspapers and journals. He is the author of Democracy for the Few, Power and the Powerless, Inventing Reality, The Sword and the Dollar and the forthcoming Make Believe Media: The Politics of Entertainment. He is currently at work on a book about the Spanish-American War.
"Real History" is a series of presentations on important and controversial topics, many of which have been shrouded in myth. Most people are never exposed to real history. In school we usually don't even read history. We read history textbooks, mostly ones that avoid the underlying realities and propagate all sorts of myths that serve the powers that be and are harmful to those who might want to believe in truth and democracy. Those who dominate our vision of the past exercise a preeminent control over how we see the present and the future.
O mia bèla Madunina
Oh my beautiful Madonnina,
who shine from far away, golden and minute ...
This song is dedicated to the Madonnina, the golden Virgin Mary statue placed on top of the highest spire of the Milan Dome. It is surely the most widely known Milanese symbol.
In Milan was born and died italian fascism.
In Milan was born and 'll die Berlusconi's party.

A glance to Saudi Arabia
And that means Saudi Arabia probably isn't going to last much longer. When the government troops won't leave their barracks, when the cops run every time the rebels fire a shot...well, church is about out. Think Tehran when the Shah fell, or Cambodia in '75.
A situation that bad doesn't happen suddenly. When you take a hard look at Saudi Arabia, you end up surprised it hasn't already fallen a long time ago.

American people, wake up
Having just hit the half-century mark age wise, I can't remember a time when Americans were more apprehensive and frustrated than they are today.
From the halls of the Pentagon to the State Department, the offices of constitutional lawyers to political insiders, and the analytical shops of the Central Intelligence Agency to the Defense Intelligence Agency, people have had it with the ideologues (neo conservatives, evangelical dominionists, Christian Zionists, reactionary Catholics, expansionistic Israel Firsters, creative destructionists, Moonies, apocalyptic fundamentalists, and plain old fascists and assorted other kooks) who have nested and reproduced within the three branches of our Federal government. The growing restlessness in America now crosses political party lines, age, racial, and ethnic groups, religious affiliations, and income brackets.
Kerry's reluctance to besmirch or even talk about Yale'sSkull and Bones crypto-Masonic and jingoistic fraternity (of which he is a member) add to the apprehension of many Americans. But Bush still stirs an angry bile across the land. Recent news that he has one of Saddam Hussein's favorite pistols in a room adjacent to the Oval Office should be no surprise. Bush likes to show the gun off to his visitors. After all, the Skull and Bonesmen regale themselves in objects looted from battlefields and graves. In their fraternity house at Yale, affectionately called "The Tomb," the Bonesmen are surrounded by Hitler's silverware, Nazi war booty (including swastika iconography), Apache Chief Geronimo's skull (allegedly grave robbed from Fort Sill, Oklahoma, by George Dubya's grandfather, Bonesman Senator Prescott Bush of Connecticut), and the skulls of Pancho Villa, President Martin van Buren (what did he ever do to piss off the Bushes?), and abolitionist leader John Brown.
Let John Kerry begin the process of cleansing America of this ilk by resigning from and denouncing the Skull and Bones. Pass a Federal law requiring them to return human remains to proper burial places and stolen war booty to their rightful owners (in the case of Hitler's silverware, that would be the U.S. Government). The moron-in-chief should turn Saddam's pistol over to the new Iraqi government's archives.
Blood for Oil.
George Bush is a simple man, but the people behind him are far from being stupid. They are the oil barons and the arms industry giants. They want to do what great powers have always done: use their military might in order to acquire economic hegemony. In simple words: to rob the poor in order to enrich themselves even more.
Germany.
Germany is against the war. Against any war. In no other country was the anti-war outburst so authentic, emanating from the innermost feelings of the masses.
And who is furious about this? Israel, the country of the Holocaust survivors. How do they dare, these damn Germans, to object to the war?
A sad irony of history:
all German TV stations show citizens, intellectuals and ordinary folk, who pray for peace, all Israeli TV screens show retired generals, obviously enjoying themselves, discussing with great relish how to employ giant bombs and other instruments of death.
Mercenaries.
This is a war fought by mercenaries. The fighters are professional soldiers, the sons of the poor, many of them black. Therefore it is easy for middle class citizens, and especially the Republican voters, to approve of the war. It is not their sons who will be killed.

arguments of both Israeli and Palestinian propaganda
These 101 points demolish the myths, conventional lies and historical falsehoods,
on which most of the arguments of both Israeli and Palestinian propaganda rest.
The truths of both sides are intertwined into one historical narrative that does
justice to both. Without this common basis, peace is impossible.

He'd be hanged
If George Bush were to be judged by the standards of the Nuremberg Tribunals, he'd be hanged. So too, mind you, would every single American President since the end of the second world war, including Jimmy Carter.
